Support New Mexico's Rural Libraries. Virtually all rural libraries in New Mexico are underfunded. Libraries that serve large metropolitan areas have access to enough funds to keep them running, but rural communities are constantly struggling to find the funds to stay open while meeting the requirements of the State Librarian to remain certified as a library.
There is an initiative to have the New Mexico Legislature create an endowment fund for the 55 rural libraries in New Mexico, which will fund them at $45,000 per year each in perpetuity. More information is available at the New Mexico Library Initiative.

Upgrade our Media. The library has hundreds of movies, TV shows, and audio books on VHS and cassette tape. With the advent of DVDs, streaming, and iPods, these have fallen into disuse. Most have been on shelves in the library for over a year with a "Free, Take Them" sign, and have not been taken.
We'd love a volunteer (or volunteers) to find out if there is an organization or person who can reuse or recycle them, so we can make room for other circulating items that are on more current media. We really would prefer not to just throw them away, if at all possible.

Events. During events, we need people to help put out food, set up tables, projectors, and seats, greet patrons and show them to the event, and so forth. Donating your time is a great way to help the library and also meet the people in our community and beyond!
Building and Grounds. We can always use help to keep the building and grounds in good shape. This might include weeding, planting, organizing the community room, thinking of better ways to use our limited storage space, and other tasks. We appreciate all the help we can get!
