Carmen was born and raised in El Rito. "Tin work became my savior since the late 1990's. I have created pieces that have delighted me and I hope have brought some joy to others. I have taught El Rito's children for over 30 years at the elementary school level. It was my desire to return to El Rito and contribute a little to the many riches it gave me. Mesa Vista Consolidated Schools and parents of El Rito gave me that opportunity, and one of the many opportunities this community has given me is the opportunity to bring back to life the old process of tin art. Yes I certainly do consider it an art, to take a flat piece of tin and create a beautiful piece of art! I just hope that my art has given others as much joy as it has given me!"
