Acoustic Guitar Music Concert

On Sunday, November 4, 2012, at 4:00 pm at the El Rito Public Library, michaelm, aka Michael Maddex, will present a short program exhibiting some of his acoustic guitars.  He will probably say a few (hopefully) kind words about one of the guitars, play a song or two on it and then move on to the next one.

michaelm got his first guitar when he was a high school student in western Pennsylvania, back when we were still using the steam powered computers, and a life-long love affair with the instrument followed.  He has lived in northern New Mexico most of his adult life, the last five years or so once again here in El Rito.  Since retiring from teaching at Northern New Mexico College in Española for many years, he has been able to divide his time between his guitar studies, reading Science Fiction and researching practical time-travel machines.

Please join us for what we hope will be an interesting hour or so of acoustic guitar music.  Light refreshments will be served.

3rd Annual Fundraiser - 100 People Donating $100

On September 1st through November 30th, we will be kicking off our 3rd annual fundraiser - 100 People Donating $100.  This fundraiser is simple, 100 people will donate $100 and the library makes $10,000 for general operating expenses.

Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 by pledging now or sending in your donation.  You can mail your donation to:  El Rito Library, P.O. Box 5, El Rito, NM  87530.  Or you can donate by credit card going to our website and clicking the "Click & Pledge" button (on the left hand side of website).

If you cannot afford the entire $100, ask family and friends to pitch in to reach the $100 goal.  Any donation will be greatly appreciated!

Each year, the El Rito Library continues to advance its mission of providing programs and free services for our El Rito and surrounding communities.  The fact is, libraries are some of the only remaining places where they can get the information and services they need for free.  But it's not free to keep libraries going.

Santa Fe Opera - "Tosca"

We have again received free tickets to the Santa Fe Opera.  This year's performance is "Tosca" as part of Youth Night.  The date is Monday, June 25, 2012, starting at 8:30 pm.  We have 15 adult tickets and 20 youth tickets.  We will be sharing a bus with the Abiquiu Library (we will have to drive to Abiquiu).  If you are interested in attending the Opera, please call the Library at 581-4608 and reserve your ticket(s).  You are not obligated to ride the bus, you can drive yourselves to the Opera.

"Ah, Tosca! Bewitched by her glamour and charisma, even the hated Baron Scarpia called her la divina. See why Puccini’s Tosca became the defining role for Bernhardt and Callas, and now the soprano Amanda Echalaz — whose performances as Tosca in London had European critics groping for superlatives. In her much-anticipated American debut in Santa Fe’s new production. She is joined by debut artist Andrew Richards as Tosca’s lover Cavaradossi. Thomas Hampson returns to Santa Fe after an absence of almost three decades. Raymond Aceto and Hampson share honors as the villainous Scarpia. Chief Conductor Frédéric Chaslin is on the podium."
