New Donate Button on Website

Did you notice (on the left hand side - blue and white button) that we now have a new donate now button through Network for Good (another non-profit organization)?  A one time donation or recurring donation (monthly donations) are really easy to set up.  Use your debit card as a credit card and your donation will come out of your checking account or just use your credit card.   I just completed the process of making my monthly donation and it took no more than 5 minutes.  What I really like is that you may save or print your receipt for your records and the information is conveniently stored in your donation history for you to access at any time.

By making an automated donation online through Network for Good, you have chosen one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to give to this charity, the El Rito Library.  Your donation is 100% tax deductible.

Thank you for your donation.  Christine Trujillo, Executive Director.

Library Receives $500 Grant for a Garden

The El Rito Public Library has received from ScottsMiracle-Gro a GRO1000 Grassroots Grant for $500.  It was one of more than 100 organizations across the U.S. to receive funding for a children's and community garden.

With the collaboration of the national summer reading program theme "DIG INTO READING" - this grant will help start a children's and community garden at the library.  While many children live in rural areas, many have never seen a garden at home or seen actual plants grow from seeds to maturity.  Community gardens have been shown to improve a neighborhood's quality of life, offering a number of environmental, health, and cultural benefits.  This grant will enable our volunteers to encourage the children weekly to help take care of the garden they planted throughout the summer and cultivate in the fall.  This garden at the El Rito Public Library will provide a place for the community to gather and work together to grow fresh produce.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that Americans throw away more 11 billion pounds of produce each year.  Despite that surplus, 4.1 percent of U.S. households experience hunger, 2.9 million of whom are children.  Through this garden, residents will be encouraged to eat healthier through cost-effective means.

To learn more about the El Rito Library community garden, call the library at 575-581-4608.

Become an "Amigo" of the Library

We are looking for 200 people who are willing donate $25.00 a month for one year (or 100 people donating $50.00 a month for one year).  Our budget is approximately $60,000 a year.  If 200 people donate $25.00 a month that equals $5,000 a month and covers all our general operating expenses.  It is simple to do - just go to your financial institution and request the deduction amount from your checking or savings account on a monthly basis.  You don't have to send us a check or money order.  The best thing is that your donation is 100% tax deductible.  Wouldn't $300.00 or $600 be helpful during tax time?  Call us if you are interested in doing this.  Tell your family and friends.  The El Rito Library really needs your help.  Thank you.
